Our Environmental ApproachThe Kingerlee Group is committed to be a leader in advancing environmental and sustainability standards and processes in the construction sector. The Group, through its development company, applies commercial tests to prospective projects, considering for example not just the cost during production, but the medium-term cost and real carbon footprint, leading on to a view or measure of the whole life cycle impact of each proposal.
This commitment is underlined by the Group's major investment in Natural Building Technologies Limited, together with a consultancy business, NBT consult. The Development Company has also become a founder member of the Good Homes Alliance, a group of house-building professionals that aims to build and promote sustainable homes and communities in the United Kingdom.
With specific regard to the construction business and traditional contracting, the client or professional team sets the sustainable and environmental agenda for projects. The emerging knowledge and understanding of these expectations in the Kingerlee management teams, and the ability to deliver them proves extremely valuable.
On site we continue to improve management processes by the implementation of a Waste Management Plan and, where possible, source materials from sustainable supplies, reduce transport costs and generally apply high standards of management to ensure effective use of all resources.
Our waste management plan is based on the waste hierarchy of elimination, minimisation, re-use, recycle, recover, and lastly disposal.
During the construction stage, water usage is minimised, monitored and logged; transport delivery tickets and site personnel journey times are monitored and logged to identify trips and identify any possibilities of trip reduction.
The minimising of wastage of materials is addressed at procurement stages. Site waste is segregated both on site and at the transfer station and recycling of materials is implemented wherever viable.
Waste production is logged to discover further ways to reduce wastage; best practice policies are undertaken to prevent ground and ground water pollution and contamination.
Kingerlee register all projects with the Considerate Contractors Scheme and is committed to gaining a high rating.
Our Health and Safety Manager, Keith Shackleton, has responsibility for Environmental Policies and reports directly to the Kingerlee board. Keith is an Associate of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment and holds a Diploma in Environment and Development Studies.
Kingerlee is committed to sustainable construction techniques and technologies.
Our development arm, Kingerlee Homes, has and is, investing heavily into researching and developing products and techniques for sustainable buildings. |
