Maplewood School, Buckinghamshire

A purpose built hall at Maplewood School, Buckinghamshire, enclosing a hydrotherapy pool with associated changing facilities.

The building comprises deep, reinforced concrete pad and beam foundations supporting a steel frame enclosed by a cavity wall construction of block and facing brick work. The main pool hall roof is a single pitched metal roof system on a metal structural deck. Adjoining lower level roofs over the changing facilities and the link are flat, composite single ply membranes off metal and timber structural decks.
The pool tank is a fully tiled, sprayed concrete structure and features a hydraulic ram controlled, moving floor.
The Hydrotherapy Pool, built for Buckinghamshire County Council, represents the fruition of a long and dedicated campaign of fund raising by the school and its friends, supported by The County Council, to provide a much needed facility for disabled children and the local community.
