10/10/14 - Sustainability and Social Responsibility Targets Satisfied

Kingerlee is currently undertaking a project which involves the conversion of an existing single storey building into a two storey office complex.
In granting permission for the project, the local authority stipulated that, in order to satisfy sustainability issues, the existing timber roof trusses had to be re-used.
Close inspection of the roof structure revealed it could not be removed without damage and that new trusses would be needed.
The local authority accepted Kingerlee’s proposal to use The National Community Wood Recycling Project for disposal of the timber from the roof because this not only fulfilled the sustainability criteria, as nothing that is collected enters the waste stream, but it also provides social benefits to the local community as it employs disadvantaged people, helping them to gain skills and confidence to get back into work or play a valuable part in society.
