The Special Projects team recently completed a major project at Hoe Bridge School in Woking, focused on essential structural repairs to the roof of the main Grade II Listed building.
To protect the historic fabric of the building, temporary works included flake fixing to safeguard the ornate frescos on the ceiling beneath the roof, as well as stabilising the structure with facing and netting to preserve its architectural features throughout the programme.
The main refurbishment works involved extensive repairs to the lead and zinc roofs, including the replacement of lead valleys and roof coverings, as well as the renewal of defective timber and brickwork to strengthen the structure. Additional works included the removal and replacement of fascias and soffits, lath and plaster repairs, and careful restoration of the original timber windows.
Thanks to detailed planning by the Special Projects team, the school remained fully operational during the refurbishment, with minimal disruption to staff and pupils. The project stands as a clear example of our commitment to balancing the preservation of heritage with the delivery of vital structural improvements.
